You have three options for reaching Suðuroy: ferry, helicopter or boat.
By ferry: M/F Smyril
The M/F Smyril connects the capital, Tórshavn, with Tvøroyri on Suðuroy. This two-hour journey offers stunning views of the surrounding islands, sea stacks, and Atlantic Ocean vistas. Enjoy the fresh ocean breeze as you sail—it’s nature’s gift, included with your ticket.
Arrival in Suðuroy
The ferry docks at Krambatangi, Tvøroyri. From there:
- Bus connections: Route 700 serves the island's south side, while Route 701 travels north.
- Car rentals: Available at Krambatangi for convenient island exploration.
Schedule
Depending on the day, M/F Smyril operates two to three daily trips between Tórshavn and Tvøroyri. Check the ferry timetable here.
Tickets

By helicopter
For a unique perspective, take to the skies! Atlantic Airways offers helicopter flights that showcase the Faroe Islands' dramatic mountains, valleys, and coastline from above. En route to Suðuroy, the helicopter stops at several islands, making the journey a visual feast.
Arrival in Suðuroy
The helicopter lands in Froðba, a village just outside Tvøroyri. From Froðba:
- Taxi or rental cars: Available by prior arrangement.
- On foot: A scenic 30-minute walk takes you to the heart of Tvøroyri.
