Neysting

Travel inwards out in the open

“Neysting” originates from the Faroese word for boathouse; “neyst”
and provides an authentic shelter experience in an original boathouse - in the midst of the raw nature of the North Atlantic.

Dottet along the fjords and steeped in history, the Faroese boathouses are the key to understanding Faroese cultural history as they till this day tell the story of how Faroese for centuries lived from fishing in rowing boats.

The tracks and traces, patination and old fishing gear still present in the preserved boathouses take you right back in time.

We believe that Neysting offers a truly unique way of traveling. A movement rooted in history towards nature, nurture and presence.

Inspired by the original Faroese rowing boat, that the boathouses once housed, we introduce

The current first and only Neysting experience is located in Froðba, which is a settlement of Tvøroyri.

It is an extraordinary location just outside the village with nothing but nature around you.
The history of the boathouses on the site is strong. There is only 1 boathouse on the location, but 8 foundation of previous boathouses.
The boathouses were all taken in a storm some 50 years ago, and the one standing was the only one that was restored.

There are several worthy sight seeing spots in a radius of 3km around the location and the island’s special “stabbagrót” is visible from the place.
