Villages
Suðuroy is the southernmost island of the Faroes and probably the most unique one. The inhabitants of Suðuroy are known for being more easy-going than the rest of the Faroese and for having a distinctive dialect.
The ferry Smyril is the primary connection between Suðuroy and the mainland, and the trip is an experience on its own. On your trip with the ferry, you can see one-third of all the islands of the Faroes and experience the different landscapes by sea. You will arrive at the stunning fjord “Trongisvágsfjørður.”
What distinguishes Suðuroy from the rest of the Faroe Islands is the easily accessible nature. On a drive around the island, you will see significant changes in the landscapes, and it is effortless to get to some of the most stunning nature you’ll see in all of the Faroes.
We have stunning fjords and tall mountains. The east side embraces while the west side horrifies, and nature is the mildest and most severe in the Faroe Islands. Enjoy the fjords and the views towards and off the cliffs from Sandvík to Akraberg.
Whether you’re driving, cycling or walking, interested in birdwatching, geology, meeting interesting people, in culture and history, or just generally interested in travelling, Suðuroy is at your feet.
