Discover Faroese everyday life and trade from times gone by
Bygdasavnið Forni in Glyvrar has a diverse collection of objects offering an insight into Faroese everyday life and work in earlier times.
The traditional smoke room contains some of the museum's oldest objects, including household utensils, woodworking tools and fishing equipment. Elsewhere in the house, visitors can explore a room furnished with pieces dating from 1874, a traditional bedroom and a kitchen with old household objects.
Upstairs, an old shop features a counter and drawers dating from 1935. Originally from Søldarfjørður, the shop contains various objects connected to trade and everyday life in earlier times.
The museum is open from 1 May to 1 October. Visits outside regular opening hours can be arranged by appointment.
