Ovasavnið

Discover the remarkable story of Ove Joensen

Ovasavnið in Nólsoy is dedicated to the life and remarkable story of Ove Joensen, the Faroese adventurer who became a national hero when he rowed alone from Nólsoy to Copenhagen in 1986. After two previous attempts, Ove set out once again in his boat, Diana Victoria, and reached Copenhagen after more than 40 days at sea.

At the museum, Diana Victoria is at the heart of the exhibition, which tells Ove’s story through history, sound and light. The museum itself is inspired by traditional Faroese boatbuilding and also has a café where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee while exploring the story of one of the Faroe Islands’ most memorable adventurers.
