The Authors’ Quarter: Ingun Christensen

BÓKADAGAR 2026: Authors with New Books Read Aloud

Author Ingun Christensen will read from Friðleys, the second book in the trilogy about Snjómánafólkið. The first book, Rúnaspá, was published in 2025. The books are aimed at young readers from Year 7 through to upper secondary school.
About the book In a vision, she sees the shieldmaiden Thyra Silfralitta, who died in the great Southern War. Saga promises to bring her remains home to the North. The rune reader Karis predicts that the journey will be dangerous and advises Saga not to reveal her true identity to anyone.
Saga dyes her silver-coloured hair to conceal her strong ties to the people of Snjómáni. She also hides the distinctive scar on her forehead. Karis hangs an engraved victory stone around her neck to protect her. Saga plans to travel to the Westlands to become a shieldmaiden in the service of the powerful seeress Hulda. Before heading south to search for Thyra’s remains, she must learn how to use weapons.
Discover the world of the Iron Age, when lands and regions were divided into chiefdoms and chieftains fought over their borders. It was an age of warriors, shieldmaidens and runes. People worshipped multiple gods from the Norse pantheon and held blót feasts, where they made offerings to the gods. They also sought guidance from seeresses, who could foretell the future and communicate with the gods.
Ingun Christensen has written several books for children, young people and adults.
The Authors’ Quarter is a series of reading events where members of the Faroese Writers’ Association, Rithøvundafelag Føroya, who have new books out, read from their recently published works.
