Froðba

About the village

The village of Froðba is the village on the far north side of the Trogisvágsfjørður fjord. The village has eventually merged with the neighbouring harbour-city of Tvøroyri. Froðba is usually divided into smaller places such as Hamri, Undir Skorum, Støðlunum, Torvheyggur and Bøur. Bøur is usually referred to as “Úti á Bø” the oldest inhabited area in Froðba.
Tradition says that Froðba is the oldest village on Suðuroy and in the Faroe Islands. A legendary Danish king, Frode or Fróði, ran ashore and settled here. The place is named after him.
Close to Froðba is a spectacular and beautiful cape, called Froðbiarnípa, with a peculiar peak, called Báradrangur.
Down by the waterside, there are spectacular columnar basalt stones, which are in a zig-zag formation, formed by nature.
