New Year’s Celebration in Tvøroyri
If you’d like to experience an eventful new year’s eve which starts with going hiking and ends with an explosion of fireworks, in unity with the locals, the New Year’s Celebration in Tvøroyri just might be the option for you.
The day usually begins with a group of locals going up to Oyrnafjall mountain, where the first preparations for the new Year’s Celebrations begin. This is done by setting up the number of the year to come with old tin cans which will be lit up with fire just before entering the new year.
The evening ends with the streets being lit up with burning tin-cans and a torchlight procession which ends by the large bonfire, which usually is situated by the sports hall in Trongisvágur. At midnight the skyline will be lit up with amazing fireworks. Afterwards the Tvøroyri New Year’s celebration Committee invites everyone into the sports hall for a drink and sandwiches.
Usually the party continues to the early mornings, with concerts in some of the venues of Suðuroy or at private parties. So feel free to come and join us for an eventful evening and an experience you’ll never forget.
